Collective Action for Laborers,
Migrants, and Asylum Seekers

CALMA is a grassroots community made up entirely of volunteers, based in the Bay Area, that provides support to families and individuals marginalized due to their immigration status both locally and at the US / Mexico border. The pillars of our organization are Education, Community Engagement, and Fundraising.

Our Mission

CALMA is built on the pillars of education, fundraising, and community engagement. Our mission is to aid asylum seekers, day laborers, and migrants in the Bay Area and to work in partnership to support the efforts of border-based aid organizations. Through our education programs we share essential knowledge in hopes of empowering our community members to get engaged in these important issues. Our fundraising efforts aim to support our own programming as well as the established programs of partner organizations, and our community engagement program allows us to be of service to families who are navigating the complexities and injustices of the immigration system. CALMA recognizes that the injustices of the immigration system do not start nor stop at the border and our mission is to advocate for the needs of our local community while acting as an ally to groups working at the US / Mexico border and promoting awareness of these injustices.

Our Values

CALMA works for, with, and within the communities we serve. We believe all people, regardless of immigration status, deserve respect, safety, and the chance to thrive.  We work in solidarity with individuals and organizations who share our mission and values to create a community of support and advocacy. We are building a movement of people dedicated to dismantling oppressive systems that impose limitations on the freedom and health of the immigrant community.
